The reduction in the payroll tax by 2.5 percentage points to 19.5 percent will save businesses 200 billion forints next year, Varga said.

In 2017 Q2, developments in corporate and household lending showed a further improvement. The annual growth rate of total corporate loans accelerated to 7 per cent. Lending to SMEs, including the self-employed sector, expanded by 13 per cent. As a result, SME lending was able to grow on market basis following the termination of the Funding for Growth Scheme.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) forecasts Hungarian economic growth of an annual 3% in 2017 and 2018, the organisation said in its latest Regional Economic Prospects report. The EBRD raised its GDP growth forecast for 2017 from 2.4%.
